Clarification on CMS Reporting Requirements To Avoid a Penalty

Providers only need to report on ONE performance category to avoid a penalty this year (but reporting at least TWO performance categories can earn a positive adjustment or BONUS)!

Although this CMS clarification has not yet been finalized, it is very likely that this scoring requirement will be approved in the Final Rule coming out at the end of 2017 and will be retroactively effective for the 2017 performance period.

Eligible clinicians who want to avoid a penalty need only to report:

  • 1 Quality Measure on 1 patient (3 points) OR
  • Meet a minimum of the 4 base measures for Advancing Care Information (12.5 points ) OR
  • Attest to 1 Improvement Activity for 90 days (max of 10 or 20 points)

CMS has proposed that:

Eligible clinicians who want to earn a positive payment adjustment and/or bonus, must report data in at least 2 of the 3 the performance categories.

  1. Quality
  2. Advancing Care Information
  3. Improvement Activities

There is still time to earn a bonus and/or positive payment adjustment!  Eligible clinicians who can begin reporting by OCTOBER 1, 2017 can still qualify for the financial incentives through QPP.
