Farewell from Thomas H. Grimstad, M.D.

Farewell from Thomas H. Grimstad, M.D.

As announced last year, I will retire on March 1, 2019 after having served as President and Chief Executive Officer of LAMMICO for the last 10 years. While it’s an exciting time for me as I look forward to retirement, it’s also humbling to look back on my 20-year career at LAMMICO.

Over the years, LAMMICO has grown and improved, building its financial strength, as evidenced by its “A” (Excellent) rating by A.M. Best rating agency. We’ve had the ability to return premium to insureds through dividends over the last 11 years. Growing a medical malpractice insurance company isn’t easy in a soft market with lower premiums and more competition, yet LAMMICO has successfully done so. My team advocates for physicians and healthcare providers and aggressively defends policyholders against claims. All of these factors contribute to LAMMICO’s success and to the quality service we provide to our insureds.

I know my wife, Wina, and I will enjoy retirement and time with our family, yet I am certain we will truly miss the culture and people of LAMMICO. They have made our experience meaningful and enjoyable, and for that I am grateful. Remaining on the Board of Directors will allow me to maintain these relationships and continue to contribute to a company that I deeply value.

In 2018, incoming President and CEO, Dr. Michael Conerly, and I began working together to ensure a smooth transition. I’m confident that under his leadership, LAMMICO will continue to deliver outstanding service to insureds and to advocate for healthcare providers in the courts and legislature.

Thank you for the privilege of serving you and working together to keep the medical liability system in Louisiana stable. Leading LAMMICO and contributing to its accomplishments has been a career highlight for me that I will always treasure.

Thomas H. Grimstad, M.D.
President/CEO
